The Dust:
The Dust is a professional theatre production inspired by the writers’ own experiences in Haiti. It presents a very real challenge to the audience, where at the heart of the story lies a Christian response to poverty, revealing grace, hope and love. The combination of live music, theatre and video provides audiences of varied backgrounds, regardless of age or faith, an encounter with a memorable and intimate performance. It is a great way to introduce people to the Appeal and provides the opportunity to raise money with a performance at your church, school or even in your back garden. Contact us for more details.
Top 5 easy ways to raise some money, and save some lives today:
Car Washing – Why don’t you and your mates spend a morning washing cars for people?
Cake Sale – Everyone loves a nice cake. See if you could organise a sale at your school or church.
Small Change Box – Make a collection box that you can empty your small change in to, or use a smarty tube.
Sponsored Silence – Get your friends, family and teachers to sponsor you not to talk.
Jumble Sale – Have a little clear out of all those things you never use anymore.
A few Crazy ideas:
Bath of beans: Sit in a bath of beans for a few hours!
Wax your legs: This one’s for the guys!
Birthdays/special events:
Ever had that feeling on the run up to a birthday or special event, wandering what presents you would like? In 2006 lots of different people decided to ask for donations towards this appeal, rather than presents! From children, to the big 18, 21st or even 90th birthday, plus Wedding Anniversaries, Christenings or Baptisms. An excellent way to celebrate your special day, and help save the lives of many other people at the same time! Let us know what you’re planning, and we’ll send you balloons for the event, and some other goodies to help you celebrate!
Sports Events:
During 2006 we organised the first Haiti Hospital Appeal fun run. Over 40 sponsored runners competed in Richmond park running 1 mile, 5 miles or 10 miles. Of course there are many different kinds of sporting events that you can raise money by doing. For instance, a football match, swimming gala or even a sky dive. This year we had an entry into the London Marathon. Take a look at our events page to find out about our Christmas Haiti Fun Run!
Staff Adoption:
In 2006 our supporters helped to raise enough money to build our first Health Centre, which now receives some of the worlds poorest people, providing life saving treatment. Each month we support the salaries of all 15 of our Haitian staff, from the local community. Why not help support them and their families by offering as an individual, or group to sponsor one of our staff each month. Check out our sponsorship page for more information!
24 Hour Famine:
Why not join in with our national 24 Hour Famine this year, and help bring hope to the lives of thousands of people in Haiti.
In 2002 it was estimated that Haitians were the fourth most undernourished populations in the world, behind the African nations of Eritrea, Somalia and Ethiopia. 70% of Haitians suffer from poverty and are unemployed, and with most of the country living on less than 50p a day, you can see how hard it can be to get a meal for yourself or family.
For just a small sacrifice of not eating on one day, you’ll be offering life changing care for people that will help them for the rest of their lives! You’ll also get the chance as a youth group, school, church, or individual to get a small glimpse into what it’s like for a huge amount of the population in Haiti who live without food. So, whether you feel you can raise £5 or £500, why not join in! No amount is too small to make a huge difference!
Gig/Concert:
Are you in a band? Do you have any friends in a band? Why not organise your own band night to raise money?! A really great and enjoyable way to support the appeal, and... we’d love to help you out! We can help you with posters, video images for the night, advertising, and post the photo’s of your event onto the web! If you’re not into music, why not organise a comedy night, a theatre night, perhaps a Christmas pantomime, or a talent show! Be as creative as possible!
